Turin: one city, many possible stories. Streets and squares, houses and stores, factories and nightclubs, famous monuments and everyday places, historical vestiges and start-up companies headed for the future. Above all, people, life stories, complicities and conflicts, friendships and separations, hopes and fears that every day, every hour, rewrite and regenerate a city in perpetual movement, which cannot be schematized in a formula or a commonplace.
Shooting Torino is in the first place an occasion to discover a multifaceted city, using cinema as a great opportunity to experience Turin beyond stereotypes and try to narrate and interpret it in a creative, unpredictable way.
In this perspective, the Winter / Summer School is an innovative experience, not only thanks to the introduction of the Virtual Reality technology as a new narrative opportunity, or to a storytelling focused on the interaction between film traditional modalities and original productive scenarios. Besides all this, Shooting Torino has chosen to experiment a cinematography with strong social vocation, capable of activating unusual gazes that allow narrations of the city in ways that have never been experienced before. Shooting Torino aims at translating in a personal and creative way the idea of the social complexity and human richness that remains often hidden beside every place and life situation, beyond daily routine.
Alessandro Avataneo and Daniele Gaglianone, film directors from Turin who have always adopted a social gaze, transporting it in the most various contexts and exploring its most unexpected facets, will guide the students in this process, helping them elaborate their ideas and translate them into film narrations.
This is why the key word characterizing the three weeks is immersive.
21 days of full immersion in the pleasure of thinking, writing, shooting and editing images, living cinema as a totalizing experience.
Yet also being involved in transforming words into images and sounds and then rethinking them again for the immersive experience of Virtual Reality 360°.
Even more: the opportunity of a full immersion in the city atmosphere in order to overcome a rushed exterior gaze while, on the contrary, trying to open up the social and cultural dimension right from the inside, meeting people and real life stories.
A writing and production lab where students are never just participants, but always absolute protagonists.
